Home / Against the inclusion of Cuba in the US anti-terrorism blacklist

On May 13, the US Department of State once again included Cuba in the list of countries that do not collaborate in the fight against terrorism, along with Venezuela, North Korea, Iran and Syria.
The inclusion in this list of Cuba, from which it left in 2015 (after 33 years), implies that the island is prohibited from selling or licensing for the export of defense articles and services to these States.
The excuse of the US to include Cuba again in this list is that it has not committed itself to the Colombian government in the “fight against terrorism” and they accuse their government of harboring several fugitives from US justice.
Among others, Washington refers to the peace delegation of the Colombian National Liberation Army (ELN) that was negotiating on the island with the Colombian government. The delegation has had to stay in Havana due to the refusal of the government of its country to guarantee its safe return to Colombian territory. Cuba has promoted and supported negotiations between the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC-EP) and the Colombian government for years, with the objective, achieved at least theoretically, to reach a peace agreement between the parties.
Regarding Venezuela, its permanence in the list responds to the accusation to President Nicolás Maduro and his officials of “continuing to allow positive contexts towards terrorists in the region, maintaining their presence.”
This occurs while the United States hides its state terrorism against Cuba, Venezuela and other countries while granting impunity to violent groups in its territory, without forgetting that on April 30 the Trump Administration did not prevent the terrorist attack against the Cuban Embassy in Washington, nor it has investigated it rigorously.
Cuba’s unjust presence on this list serves to intensify the application of the criminal measures of the blockade that the United States maintains against the island. Furthermore, these events will become a possible refusal of financial entities to operate with the Caribbean country.
For all these reasons, the Party of the European Left:
– Condemns and rejects the inclusion of Cuba and Venezuela in this list and demands their immediate withdrawal.
– Reminds the US to investigate the terrorist attack on the Cuban Embassy in Washington and prosecute all those responsible.
– Expresses its solidarity with the Cuban people and their government, as well as with the Venezuelan people and their legitimate government in the face of continuous attacks by the United States.
– Requests also clarification of the role that the Government of Colombia is having in this context caused by imperialism.

El pasado 13 de mayo, el Departamento de Estado de EE.UU. volvió a incluir a Cuba en la lista de países que no colaboran con la lucha antiterrorista, junto a Venezuela, Corea del Norte, Irán y Siria.
La inclusión en esta lista de Cuba, de la cual salió en el año 2015 (después de 33 años), implica que se prohíbe a la isla la venta o licencia para la exportación de artículos y servicios de defensa a estos Estados.
La excusa de EE.UU. para incluir de nuevo a Cuba en esta lista es que no se ha comprometido con el Gobierno colombiano en la “lucha antiterrorista” y acusan a su Gobierno de albergar a varios prófugos de la justicia estadounidense.
Entre otros, Washington se refiere a la delegaciòn de paz del Ejercito de Liberacion Nacional (ELN) de Colombia que negociaba en la isla con el gobierno colombiano. La delegacion se ha tenido que quedar en La Habana debido a la negativa del gobierno de su país a garantizar su vuelta segura al territorio colombiano. Cuba ha impulsado y apoyado las negociaciones entre las Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (FARC-EP) y el gobierno colombiano desde hace años, con el objetivo logrado de forma teórica al menos, de alcanzar un acuerdo de paz entre las partes.
Por lo que se refiere al Venezuela, su permanencia en la lista responde a la acusacion al presidente Nicolás Maduro y sus funcionarios de “continuar permitiendo contextos positivos hacia los terroristas en la region, manteniendo su presencia”.
Esto ocurre mientras Estados Unidos esconde su terrorismo de Estado contra Cuba, Venezuela y otros paises a la vez que otorga la impunidad a grupos violentos en su territorio, sin olvidar que el pasado 30 de abril la Administración Trump no impidió el ataque terrorista contra la Embajada cubana en Washington, ni lo ha investigado de una forma rigurosa.
La presencia injusta de Cuba en esta lista sirve para intensificar la aplicación de las medidas criminales del bloqueo que EEUU mantiene contra la isla. Además, estos hechos se transformarán en una posible negativa de entidades financieras a operar con el país caribeño.
Por todo ello el Partido de la Izquierda Europea:
– Condena y rechaza la inclusión de Cuba y de Venezuela en esta lista y exige su inmediata retirada.
– Conmina de nuevo a que EEUU investigue el ataque terrorista a la Embajada cubana en Washington y persiga a todos los responsables.
– Se solidariza con el pueblo cubano y su gobierno, asì como con el pueblo venezuelano y su legitimo gobierno ante los continuos ataques de Estados Unidos.
– También solicitamos se clarifique el papel que el Gobierno de Colombia está teniendo en este contexto provocado por el imperialismo.
