In commemoration of Esther Bejarano

Today I commemorate Esther Bejarano, who passed away on 10 July 2021.

She was a Holocaust survivor, anti-fascist and socialist living in Germany, and made an incredible contribution to anti-fascism over the past few decades. Esther survived because she was a player in the Women’s Orchestra of Auschwitz. She used her moving story as a survivor of Auschwitz as a means of enlightenment during many lectures at schools and at other events.

Esther was not “only” an anti-fascist but also a socialist and took a clear position against the miserable wages and working conditions of carers, war, austerity, or racism. She remained combative and solidary until the end.
