ECUADOR: European Left Party on the Bribery case
The verdict of the so-called “Bribes” case that condemns former President Rafael Correa to eight years in prison and 25 years of political inhabilitación has been a farce. Along with the former Ecuadorian president, former Vice President Jorge Glas and nineteen other people have also been sentenced, as a result of the political persecution against the former Ecuadorian president performed by the Government of Lenín Moreno.
Different testimonies and analyzes would show that the evidence denounced before the Ecuadorian justice system indicates that the campaign against Correa and Jorge Glas had and still has the purpose to prevent former President Correa from running for the elections and to keep Glas in prison, with serious risk to his physical integrity.
This trial, which takes place in the midst of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, only seeks, in addition to preventing Correa’s electoral participation, to cover Lenin Moreno’s inaction and incompetence in the face of this crisis, which has reached the catastrophic point in Ecuador with crowded corpses lying in the streets.
For these reasons the European Left Party rejects this sentence, the political persecution suffered by the former Ecuadorian President, the ex-Vice President Jorge Glas and other members of their government, at the same time that we show our solidarity to both leaders and their families.

ECUADOR: el Partido de la Izquierda europea sobre el caso Sobornos
La sentencia del mal llamado caso “Sobornos” que condena al ex Presidente Rafael Correa a ocho años de prisión y 25 de inhabilitación ha sido una farsa. Junto al ex mandatario ecuatoriano también han sido condenados el ex Vicepresidente Jorge Glas y otras diecinueve personas, fruto de la persecución política que sufre el ex mandatario ecuatoriano por parte del Gobierno de Lenín Moreno.
Diferentes análisis y testimonios demostrarían que las pruebas denunciadas ante la justicia ecuatoriana señalan que la campaña contra Rafael Correa y Jorge Glas tenía y tiene como objetivo impedir que Correa pueda presentarse a las elecciones y que Glas salga de la cárcel donde está confinado, con grave riesgo para su integridad física.
Este proceso que tiene lugar en medio de la crisis causada por la pandemia COVID-19, solo busca además de impedir la participación electoral de Correa, tapar la inacción e incompetencia de Lenín Moreno ante esta crisis, que ha llegado al punto catastrófico en Ecuador que hay cadáveres yaciendo hacinados en las calles.
Es por estas razones que desde el PIE rechazamos esta sentencia, la persecución política que sufren tanto el ex Presidente ecuatoriano, el ex Vicepresidente Jorge Glas y otros miembros de sus gobiernos, a la vez que mostramos nuestra solidaridad a ambos líderes y sus familias.
