The Working Group for Latin America of the Party of the European Left (EL) expresses its solidarity with Beatriz Rajland and with ATTAC Argentina after the pressure and threats of the government of Mauricio Macri and the security forces.
The media have announced that the Argentine security services “have under the microscope” the organizations that are preparing critical activities of the G20 and capitalist globalization.
ATTAC, social organizations and trade unions are accused of wanting to threaten the security of the summit and of supposedly receive “suspicious transfers from abroad”. The government shows its fear in the face of the mobilizations of the organizations that in 2005 contributed to the failure of the draft of the Free Trade Agreement for the Americas.
These unacceptable attacks are a provocation and a warning directed against social movements and citizens who denounce and oppose the neoliberal policies of the governments of the G20 member countries, the IMF and the WTO.
Is evident that the Argentine government seeks to discredit the organizations that, like ATTAC, call for a week of actions from November 25 to December 1, ahead of the G20 meeting in Buenos Aires.
The campaign against ATTAC and against Beatriz Rajland is an attempt to justify in advance a possible repression.
The Party of the European left denounces the threats and authoritarianism of the Argentine government and condemns any violation of the right of every citizen to express their opinions.
