Reset Europe: Go left – In December the Congress of the European Left
The party chooses Spain for the event, that will take place in Benalmádena (Málaga) between 13 and 15 December.
The Party of the European Left (PEL) will hold its sixth congress in the Spanish town of Benalmádena, near Málaga. The event will take place between 13 and 15 December and bring together over 400 delegates representing 25 political parties from more than twenty European countries.
The congress will coincide with the investiture of the new Spanish government, in which Unidas Podemos will form part. Izquierda Unida, one of the principal forces behind the Spanish left alliance, is a founding member of the PEL. This timing also provides an opportunity to celebrate a major victory for the Left in Spain and in Europe.
The gathering is organised around the slogan ‘Reset Europe, Go Left’, underlining the motivation to relaunch an alternative programme for Europe. A green transition, genuine equality and international solidarity will be central to the organisation’s vision over the next three years.
Izquierda Unida and the Spanish Communist Party will host the conference, which will be attended by the leaders of a wide range of left-wing political parties from across Europe.
Parties represented will include SYRIZA, Greece, Die Linke, Germany, Refondazione Comunista, Italy, and Bloco de Esquerda, Portugal, as well as the communist parties of Austria, Finland, France and Moldova, and left parties and alliances from Belarus, Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Luxemburg, Czechia, Romania, Slovenia, Switzerland, Turkey and Hungary.
The Party of the European Left was founded in 2004 in Rome. Since the founding congress, the pan-European grouping has held five congresses in Athens (2005), Prague (2007), Paris (2010), Madrid (2013) and Berlin (2016), where it elected its current president, Gregor Gysi, from Die Linke.

La Izquierda Europea elige España para celebrar su congreso
Será en Benalmádena (Málaga) los días 13, 14 y 15 de diciembre
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea (PIE) celebrará su sexto congreso trienal en Andalucía, en concreto en la ciudad malagueña de Benalmádena, los días 13, 14 y 15 de diciembre y donde reunirá a más de 400 delegados y delegadas de 25 partidos políticos de una veintena de países del continente.
En una nota de prensa, el PIE ha destacado que espera que su Congreso coincida con la investidura del nuevo ejecutivo español del que formará parte Unidas Podemos, con quien comparte espacio político en Europa, razón por la que es “una magnífica oportunidad” para celebrar su encuentro en nuestro país.
El cónclave se celebrará bajo el lema ‘Reset Europe, go left’ y responde a la necesidad de la izquierda en Europa de establecer un punto de inflexión. Se plantea un relanzamiento político basado en un programa alternativo para Europa que se apoya en la transformación socio ecológica, la igualdad universal y la solidaridad internacional.
Izquierda Unida y el Partido Comunista de España serán los anfitriones del sexto Congreso del PIE, un encuentro que contará con la asistencia de líderes de diversos partidos de la izquierda europea.
Con ellos, se darán cita también organizaciones políticas como Syriza de Grecia, Die Linke de Alemania, Refondazione Comunista de Italia o el Bloco Portugués, los partidos comunistas de Austria, Finlandia, Francia y Moldavia así como sus referentes de izquierdas en Bielorrusia, Bulgaria, Dinamarca, Estonia, Luxemburgo, República Checa, Rumanía, Eslovenia, Suiza, Turquía y Hungría.
El PIE se creó en 2004 en la ciudad de Roma. Ha celebrado, además del congreso de fundación, otros cinco congresos en las ciudades de Atenas (2005), Praga (2007), París (2010), Madrid (2013) y Berlín (2016) que eligió a su actual presidente, Gregor Gysi de la formación alemana Die Linke.
