The Party of the European Left (EL) categorically condemns the coup d’etat perpetrated in Bolivia against President Evo Morales.
For years, the white and racist oligarchy of Bolivia, supported by the United States, has been preparing a civic-military coup against Evo Morales. Now they managed to force the legitimate elected president of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to resign. Evo has resigned to prevent further bloodshed, pacify the country and to deter the fascist violence. And it does so after encouraging dialogue and declaring the intention to call new elections. But the coup plotters were not and are not interested in new elections as they ignore and trample the Constitution. For them, the only important thing is to end a government that, instead of defending the rich and selling the country to American and European multinationals, has worked in favor of the forgotten, battered and discriminated majorities.
If there were doubts, the violence of these days shows the role of the Bolivian fascist right, starting with Fernando Camacho, leader of the paramilitary squadrons and Carlos Mesa, the candidate who clearly lost the elections. Seeing that they could not access the government through legal and democratic channels, they did not respect the will of the Bolivian people and then, without presenting any evidence, denounced an alleged “fraud” unleashing a wild wave of violence in Bolivia. To top it all, they rejected the audit of the same electoral process by the Organization of American States (OAS).
Seeing that the attempt of a soft coup, that is, the one that is set up through the media close to the extreme right, the institutions and the judicial system did not give the expected results – as happened in Honduras, Paraguay or Brazil – they returned to the old methods of military intervention. An army intervention sponsored and suggested by Washington, by the government of Donald Trump.
On the other hand, both the European Union and the OAS had made clear on which side they were already during the counting of the votes since they had ordered the government to conduct a second round without knowing the definitive results. Their responsibility is what is happening now is obvious and of the utmost gravity and they will have to be held accountable for such behavior.
The EL denounces that already the extreme fascist and xenophobic right has opened its particular hunt with persecutions, murders and attacks against the indigenous and popular sectors that support President Evo. Fascists who have long promoted hatred and discrimination towards native, peasant and humble peoples linked to the Movement for Socialism (MAS). Today there is a well-founded fear for the physical integrity and life of these sectors of the Bolivian people that have already been kidnapped, with death threats from paramilitary squads. The EL denounces these abominable facts and demands that the media have greater coverage so that they are not an accomplice in choking off the voice of the most disadvantaged people.

he Party of the European Left reaffirms its solidarity with comrade Evo Morales. We call on the European Union to condemn this brutal coup d’etat, and we and also point out at the EU as a guilty party of what is happening in Bolivia.
The EL also denounces the umpteenth intervention of the United States in the sovereignty of peoples that are seeking equality, solidarity, and development in a framework of freedom.
The EL calls on its militants and the sincere Democrats to resist to defend democracy, condemn the violence of the coup and respect the democratically elected government.

Comunicado del Partido de la Izquierda Europea ante el golpe de estado en Bolivia
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea (PIE) condena categóricamente el golpe de estado perpetrado en Bolivia contra el presidente Evo Morales.
Durante años, la oligarquía blanca y racista de Bolivia, apoyada por Estados Unidos, ha estado preparando un golpe cívico-militar contra Evo Morales. Ahora lograron forzar a renunciar al legítimo presidente del Estado Plurinacional de Bolivia, quién había ganado las recientes elecciones. Evo ha renunciado para evitar más derramamiento de sangre, pacificar el país, bloquear la violencia fascista. Y lo hace luego de llamar al diálogo y declarar la intención de convocar nuevas elecciones. Pero los golpistas no estaban ni están interesados en nuevas elecciones ya que desconocen y pisotean la Constitución. Para ellos lo único importante es acabar con un gobierno que, en lugar de defender a los ricos y vender el país a las multinacionales estadounidenses y europeas, ha trabajado a favor de las mayorías olvidadas, maltratadas y discriminadas.
Si hubiera dudas, la violencia de estos días muestra el rol de la derecha fascista boliviana, comenzando por Fernando Camacho, líder de los escuadrones paramilitares y Carlos Mesa, candidato que con claridad perdió en las elecciones. Al ver que no podían acceder al gobierno por los canales legales y democráticos, primero no respetaron la voluntad del pueblo boliviano y luego, sin presentar ninguna prueba, denunciaron un presunto “fraude” desatando una salvaje ola de violencia en Bolivia. Para colmo, al final rechazaron la verificación del mismo proceso electoral por parte de la Organización de Estados Americanos (OEA).
Al ver que el intento de golpe blando, es decir, aquel orquestado a través de los medios afines a la ultraderecha, las instituciones y el sistema judicial no daba los resultados que esperaban -como sucedió en Honduras, Paraguay o Brasil-volvieron a los viejos métodos de la intervención militar. Una intervención de ejército auspiciada y sugerida por Washington, por el gobierno de Donald Trump

Por su parte, tanto la Unión Europea como la OEA habían dejado claro de qué lado estaban ya durante el conteo electoral porque que ya antes de esperar los resultados, habían ordenado al gobierno que se realizara una segunda vuelta. Su responsabilidad en lo que está sucediendo es evidente y de máxima gravedad y tendrán que rendir cuenta.
El PIE denuncia que ya la extrema derecha fascista y xenófoba ha abierto su particular cacería con persecuciones, ataques y asesinatos contra los sectores indígenas y populares que apoyan al presidente Evo. Fascistas que durante mucho tiempo han promovido el odio y la discriminación hacia los pueblos originarios, campesinos y humildes vinculados al Movimiento por el Socialismo (MAS). Hoy el existe el fundado temor por la integridad física y la vida de estos sectores de pueblo boliviano que ya han sido secuestrados, con amenazas de muerte por parte de los escuadrones paramilitares. El PIE denuncia estos abominables hechos y exige a los medios de comunicación la mayor cobertura para que no sean cómplices en silenciar por siempre la voz de los más desfavorecidos.
El Partido de la Izquierda Europea reafirma su solidaridad con el compañero Evo Morales. Exhorta a la Unión Europea a que condene este brutal golpe de estado y la señala también como parte culpable de lo que sucede en Bolivia.
El PIE también denuncia la enésima intervención de los Estados Unidos en la soberanía de los pueblos que buscan la igualdad, la solidaridad y el desarrollo en un marco de libertad.
El PIE hace un llamado a sus militantes y a los sinceros demócratas a la resistencia para defender la democracia, condenar la violencia del golpe y respetar al gobierno elegido democráticamente.
